After breakfast we all packed up and left to the nearby Lake Naivasha. First we went for some shopping and then Damian took Delfine as pillion for the remaining route. We went first the main road with lots of traffic, especially trucks. After 30km we forked of to the C707 that should take us around the lake. It started nice with asphalt, passing between conservatories. Later it turned to dusty dirt track, along the lake. It 2as such a nice scenery, and occasionally we saw gazelles or zebras, even warthogs and ostrichs.
At one point I stopped to take a picture and talking to some locals as they told me there are snakes in the lake. I thought Damian would wait at some point, but njett, nada! Seriously 😳 I am glad nothing has happened en route, but for what do I always worry and wait for him on offroad?!
At some roadworks they had naturally stop and wait for me. I used the time, to find a hidding spot 😅 By the time I was done, the road was cleared too.
Towards the end it was again asphalt, but so many potholes 🙄
About 14h00 we arrived at the Acacia Sanctuary Campsite. We are surrounded by zebras, Wildebeast, Gazelles and whatever we cannot see 🤭 We had a delicious salad for lunch and then I pitched my tent as I was desperate for a siesta as I didn't sleep very well during the night.
When I was just asleep it started to rain 😱😳 I raced outside to quickly put the outer shell on and my things inside the tent. By that time it almost stopped 😅🤞 Back in the tent I nearly fell asleep again when I heard some bikes arriving.
When it stopped raining I came out of my tent and it was Nadia&Mitchel from IG "thegreatridealong". Wouldn't have thought to meet them as they are sort of similar time travelling.
Then proposed Franck that Delfine booked a cottage and we can camp there outside. So we had to pack all quickly, that they can transport it in the truck. Delfine is in a lovely cottage and we pitched our tents in the backyard. Then we all walked to the lake to see if we see some hippos, but it was mainly walking within Zebras 🤩
Whilst we sat on the terrace for dinner and chatting there were indeed hippos grazing in the front 😳😳 So you can imagine how well I slept, worrying about hippos wandering around the tent....also dogs barking and hienas or jackals howling....
When I went for breakfast there were Giraffes close by, so we went down thete, and Nadia&Mitchel were also their with their local friend. Like that we started talking. We agreed to meet later, also did they suggest to do a night game drive. - sounds like a great idea 🤩
After breakfast we went for a walk down to the lake. We got really close to the Giraffes 🤩 and later we saw Hippos in the water - how cool is that!! After lunch I went to town to have a cafe with Nadia & Mitchel, and chatting with Nadia as the boys were working.
Later the afternoon I went with Franck for a little spin on their little 125 around the estates- that was fun 🤘🥳 except passing the Buffaloes- they were not really happy 😱😱 the Ranger at the reception gave us a kind word of warning!
We passed by Nadia & Mitchel and agreed to meet at our cottage at 21h00 for a night drive. Lets hope the Hippos and Buffaloes are staying away from us 🙏🤞
It was very easy the night ride as you never know where the Hippos or Buffalo's were, so plenty of adrenaline 😅 Towards the end we saw a hippo (well the fat backside vanishing into the bushes), so we stopped trying to get a better view. Suddenly heard, over the engine, somewhere behind us load roaring 😱 so I said that I will go, same Nadia and we drove off - that was really scary, even though it was in distance!!
Back at the cottage we saw a Hyena, but we disturbed it getting its dinner 😅 I went then to bed and shortly after the others went, I suddenly heard a noise. It must be a Hippo grazing it's way through the backyard 😱 really close to my tent 😱😱 so another sleepless night!
The next morning, after breakfast it was packing up, for me just to move to the campground 😅.
I moved there after waving Good-bye to the "Frenchies". After my tent was up I went into town to the Cafe Shop where Peter, Nadia &Mitchel were. We had lunch and as they still had to work I went back to the camping.
In the evening we had a nice dinner, cooked over the fire and it was so nice chatting to them, also as we knew some people in common. There was also some Hippos coming close by, but hopefully they stay outside of our camp 🙏🙏
Unfortunately it started to rain, so we disappeared to our tents.
Oh, and I got a new loop for waiting for the spares 😂, off to Kisumu.
