After a good day of rest, Damian and me wanted to visit another lodge along the coast, north of Mombasa.
It is only 90km, but 3.5hrs due to google maps inclusive a ferry ride 😲😳
Once on the road to Mombasa we worked our way around all the TukTuks and Boda Bodas. The closer we came to Mombasa, which is like a little island, the traffic got more crazy. As it was all straight I had google maps/phone off. Suddenly the road forked off and I couldn't get into google fast, so I stopped. Damian seemed to have the same issue. I saw a sign about no entry and google routed me back on the main road. Once on it, the traffic got worse as we seemed to enter an area of a market and now google wants me to turn around. That was impossible with all the traffic and vendors, only forward! 😲😳
Then there was only upcoming traffic and I had to paddle carefully along, as to my right the trucks coming and to my left vendors and people, plus a ditch! Not the place to drop the bike!!! And then I saw in 50m distance the reason, it was already the ferry port!
The police helped us to get on MPesa the ticket and we could already enter the ferry! Next to our small one, was a big one just jampacked with people!
Not long, ours was full and we set over to the other side! The traffic through Mombasa 'Centre' was crazy with cars, TukTuks, bycicle, Maputos end whatever is on the road! No rules applied to traffic or roundabouts, but it seems to work 🤔😅
We came to a traffic light that qas not working, and we had to turn right on that busy road 😲 Luckily I had a jeep to my right crossing with me, but when turning I had to remember to find my gap into the traffic! Once in, it was "flowing" again out of town. Still 90mins to go 🤔😲 as the whole road up North is under construction! In the town we had to turn to our Guestlodge I stopped (us) at a fuel station to get some water and fizzy drinks.
Off the mainroad it was again offroad to the Guestlodge. It was so great to arrive at this lovely place. The guy at reception was really nice and helpful. Once we had all sorted and paid, we got our rooms showed and a little tour around the place. What a chilling olace!! And the rooms got outdoor bathrooms, with compost toilets!
I needed a shower, really weird being 'comando' showering outside 😉. Then I had a well deserved siesta. We met later at the outside terrace for a delicious dinner.
The next day is just, agai, for relaxing and catching up on social media as good internet/wifi 😅🤓
