What a lovely ride today, but had its moments!!!
In the morning there were no elephants, but some gazelles, but they were so alerted, I couldn't fetch my camera.
We had breakfast on the first floor and suddenly there were the elephants 🤩🐘 It was so great watching them whilst having breakfast.
After all packed up, it was time to say Good-bye to James, who even helped us to find accomodation at Lake Challa and then NP Amboseli.
In the village I fuelled up and bought me some water, to have enough - just in case!
Then we hit the road to Taveta. Just shortly after Mariwenyi the road into the mountains towards Wundanyi. Not long and it was a dirt track that slowly started to go up into the mountains. Again there were parts you have to pick your line wisely 🤓😅
At one bumpy section I heard my water bottle falling. I stopped at a place I though we boths fit, but Damian thought he can pass and dropped his BMW R1200GS 😲 It took us 3 attempts to lift the beast 😵💫😳
I heard voices 'above' us and there was a lady. I started talking to her, so she came with her little daughter down talking to us. That was really nice! She send us away the with Gods blessing.
After the bike lift we had to get the bikes through a difficult section and shortly after again. This time we learned. So first me tackling it, park and go back to help Damian. That worked better. So at the next stop was a little shop and we had a Ginger lemonade. Was so nice talking to the lady and a guy outside of tge shop. The little daughter was so noisy 🤩
After the refreshment we carried on and after about 5km the road got much nicer, as just done. However, there was still one challenging curve. I managed, but Damian dropped his bike ss he avoided the upcoming Boda Boda driver. Suddenly there were so many helpers around!! At least I didn't need to lift the bike 😉
We ended up chatting to some people until we were ready to leave!
Shortly after Wundanyi the road was asphalt, and still uphill. But shortly after the town, passing the highest point for us (1400m), the view opens to the plains and mountains in the distance. That was such a breathtaking view. After taking pictures we started driving a lovely twisty road back down yo the Voi-Taveta road. Once on that road it didn't take us long and we enterred Tsavo National Park. And here it didn't take us long to see first 3 huge ostrichs and then a herd of elephants - just close to that busy road. It continued l8ke that, elephants, zebras, Giraffes and occasionally wilderbeasts. It was so amazing seeing them so close. Of course always observing our surroundings whilst stopping for pictures as we are in the National Park - we are Uber Eats for these animals!!
When we arrived Taveta we topped up our fuel in the village and bought some drinks before we drove off to Lake Chala. James of the Guestlodge had arranged us a good price for camping at Lumi River Lodge. The road = dirt track went along schools and villages. When we arrived at the Lodge, Damian dropped his bike again 😲
We first had to negotiate the price for the room as apparently the rate for locals is much lower than for tourists. Good I didn't see the room (actually testing the shower) before fixing the price as even that price was a rip off!! The bed was nice, but the shower not warm or hot at all and only a wee water got out, but in all sorts of directions! Glad I hadn't undo my hair!!
Later, having a nice salad and beer, it all l9oked nice as in the dark. At daylight unfortunately run down. I reported that back to James as he was thinking to send in future clients to there. I told him not to!
However, even with the local disco close by I slept very good for a change.
