About 6h30 I was awake as I heard animal noises, so I peeredout of my tent and saw 4 rhinos outside the campground. Wow, that is awsome!! I just watched that, in between I started to pack up. At some point a BodaBoda cought my attention as shortly after leaving it stopped on the track. When I looked I saw 5, but could be 6 or 7, rhinos grazing in distance 🤩
During packing up,I always took some time to watch the 4 rhinos as they were still around. They didn't bother about people pass by on bycicles or Boda Bodas...I also spoke to the Rangers walking by - guess they were as curious about me as I was about the Rhinos 😉
By about 11am I was finally leaving, now really hungry as no breakfast yet. I had marked a restaurant just outside on the national road. As I was already hot from packing I bungeed the jacket to my luggage until the restaurant 🤫
After breakfast I headed to Masindi, to Masindi Hotel. I was planning to camp but they gave me such a good price that I decided to treat myself to a room. The main reason was that Masindi Hotel is the oldest in Uganda AND Hemmingway already stayed here, AND Humphrey Bogart & Katherine Hepburn when filming "The African Queen".
After a rest I arranged through reception a Chimpanzee tour to the local forest. Deo, the Ranger, picked me up on his Boda Boda and again I was not in my riding gear 😲 The good thing about being a pillion is that I could film for a change when driving through villages.
After about 20mins we reached the forest and started to hike into it to hopefully find some Chimpanzees.
We were lucky, we saw some whilst hiking, but by the time I had the camera ready, they were gone. Also the bush was too dense, however I was lucky to have the chance to observe a mother and her little one and one climbing for food in the trees. That was again so amazing!!!
On our way back we had to find a bank as I needed cash to pay Deo, which was not easy as the system was down. 3rd bank I was lucky. I also paid him filling up his tank, instead of originally requested 10 USD for the community. The hike was 50 USD and that should include the Ranger (community)!!!
Back at the hotel I had a delicious snack and it didn't take me long to go to bed as I was already up so early. And what a confortable bed, the blanket was dow 🤩
